Sports: World Cup #3

Hi, guys, how are you? This is Caio Gabriel and i'm gonna talk a little about the world cup
The project to organize a World Cup began creating the FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) on May 21, 1904. FIFA, world football body, was founded in Paris, France and has its headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland. In 1906, the first attempt of the issue, initiated by the Dutch leader Carl Hirschmann was planned in Switzerland, with four groups of four teams as a first round had been implemented. But at the end of the subscription receipts for the sixteen countries invited on August 31, 1905, no federation confirmed their participation and the project at that time was abandoned. With the establishment of a tournament of Olympic football in 1908, Hirschmann wanted to proceed with the recognition of this Olympic tournament as the world championship of amateur football. The idea has been validated in a FIFA Congress in 1914, but World War blocked the initiative. After the war, FIFA changed its attitude. After his election as President of FIFA, the French Jules Rimet put everything in place with compatriot Henri Delaunay sports director, never to recognize the Olympic tournament as the world championship of amateur football, struggling to create a new competition. The Olympic Games in 1924 and 1928 were able to establish a constructive dialogue between the formations of South America and Europe.
The World Cup by FIFA proposal was approved at a conference in Amsterdam on May 26, 1928, for twenty-five votes in favor and five against, with one abstention. The organization of the first World Cup was then assigned to Uruguay in the FIFA Congress in Barcelona, May 18, 1929, to celebrate the centenary of its independence but also because the selection had been Olympic champion twice, em1924 and 1928.
The pace of the World Cup is fixed, alternating with the Olympics. At the time of creation of the World Cup, almost all teams had the same training at the Olympic Games and the World Cup because they had an amateur status. However, competition has been rapidly becoming professional. If the Olympics were for amateurs, FIFA recognized the World Cup and accepted the teams that chose professionalism. To this day, in fact, the objectives and the values differs, the World Cup is open to all professionals and amateurs. Many soccer players in the world also have two jobs. It is common to see athletes as well participating in youth World Cups, as sub-20 and sub-17.

First World Cup

The first edition of the World Cup was held in Uruguay in Montevideo in 1930. Only thirteen national teams met at that time, and only four European countries crossed the Atlantic Ocean to compete in the tournament. Belgium, France and Romania boarded the ship "Conte Verde". Yugoslavia, in turn, embarked on the "MS Florida." Other European countries refused to participate in the World Cup for financial and administrative reasons      Jules Rimet was even forced to undertake a tour of France to convince the authorities, players and employers that France did not lose the place of first global meeting. All other countries were in the Americas. There were two teams from North America: United States and Mexico. The rest were South American. The teams of Argentina and Uruguay, both undefeated, played the final. The two neighboring countries have always been rivals and many Argentines in large numbers watched the tournament. However, the Olympic Celeste, as it became known Uruguayan selection, after the achievements of the 1924 and 1928 Olympics, was a housewife and had a big advantage for it. The game took place on 30 July at the Estadio Centenario, which was built hastily to the world. Uruguay opened the scoring, but Argentina reacted consecutively and scored twice to lead by 2-1 by the end of the first half. However, in the back of the range, the selection of the house went very well for the second half and turned the match to 4-2, winning the first World Cup in history.
Italy participated for the first time in World Cup history in a climate of economic crisis and the rise of fascism in Europe. Defending champion, Uruguay did not participate in the competition that brought together thirty-two nations, nineteen more than in the first edition. Italy was also the host country of the tournament. The preliminary stage, the playoffs were implemented to reduce the number of participating teams to sixteen. Coached by Vittorio Pozzo, the Italian team received the Artemio Franchi Stadium in Florence, Spain in the quarter-finals. After a hard fought match, the two teams tied for 1 to 1 and had to repeat the next day the game to decide the place in the semi-final.
The Argentine player naturalized Italian, Luis Monti, who had played the final of the first World Cup for Argentina, injured a Spanish player at the start of the match. In the second game, Italy ranked by winning 1-0 with a goal from Giuseppe Meazza, and so would take Austria in the next phase. Against the Austrians, the national team again won 1-0 and qualified for the final. In the other semifinal, Czechoslovakia eliminated Germany by 3 to 1. In the World Cup final, Czechoslovakia opened the scoring with Antonín Puč front of Benito Mussolini and the many soldiers present in the stadium the National Fascist Party, at Rome. But five minutes later, Italy tied the game with Raimundo Orsi and took the game into overtime. With five minutes of play in overtime, Angelo Schiavio gave victory 2-1 to the Italians face the Czechs in the first World Cup played in Europe.
